Description

A Product Engineer is sought for the AI Search and Retrieval Context Engineering team to build the next generation of legal AI experiences for law firms, not another disconnected AI chatbot. The role is hands-on product engineering focused primarily on React and TypeScript, with a broader expectation to shape the user experience, think through system design and build high-quality software. You will work closely with lawyers, knowledge teams and technical stakeholders to turn AI retrieval capability into simple, explainable and trusted products. The position is remote-friendly, tagged #LI-Remote, and requires United Kingdom residency and work authorization.

Responsibilities

Build high-quality React and TypeScript front-end applications with strong component design
Help define how legal AI experiences should work, challenging unclear requirements and simplifying complex workflows
Work close to legal users and client teams to understand how lawyers search for knowledge and review documents
Design interfaces that make retrieval transparent, including citations, source previews, metadata, snippets, filters and confidence signals
Understand how the UI fits into wider systems such as Azure AI Search, Azure OpenAI, retrieval APIs, MCP-style tool access and Microsoft Graph
Use AI effectively in your own engineering workflow for code drafts, test ideas, refactoring and documentation
Build search interfaces, AI answer experiences, document previews, citation views, agent workflows, feedback loops, dashboards, admin screens and embedded components

Requirements

Strong hands-on experience with React and TypeScript
Building component-based applications with complex state, APIs and polished enterprise user interfaces
Modern front-end practices including authentication flows, role-based permissions, asynchronous data, loading and error states, accessibility, testing, source control and CI/CD
Understanding how the UI fits into the wider system, such as retrieval APIs, document processing pipelines, security trimming, Microsoft Graph, SharePoint and iManage
Interest in AI product design and willingness to learn how retrieval, citations, agents and RAG systems work
Minimum of 7 years of experience in consulting or a related field
Preferred experience in providing expert advice and solutions to clients
Preferred certification as Certified Management Consultant (CMC) or equivalent
Awareness of retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, vector search, hybrid search, document chunking, citations, source grounding and agentic interfaces
Desirable experience in legal technology, enterprise search, document management systems, knowledge management, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, SaaS products, internal tools or professional services
Product engineering mindset: comfortable working in ambiguity, forming a point of view, testing ideas quickly and improving based on feedback
Experience building search interfaces, AI interfaces, dashboards, document review tools or workflow applications would be particularly relevant
