A research team working on sustainable aviation is recruiting a Technical Analyst to be based at the Whittle Laboratory in West Cambridge. The role centres on developing and operating models that assess the economic and environmental outcomes of aviation systems to support cutting-edge research on the path to net zero. The analyst will also contribute to external reports and grant proposals and engage with stakeholders across academia, industry and policy domains. About 90% of software development is greenfield, using modern typed Python and functional programming, so everyone helps shape the architecture and idioms of the codebases.

Обязанности

Develop and operate models that assess the economic and environmental outcomes of aviation systems
Contribute to external reports and grant proposals under the supervision of the line manager
Engage with stakeholders across academia, industry and policy domains to ensure impactful delivery of research outputs
Help shape the architecture and idioms of greenfield codebases
Support the design and delivery of innovative tools and services that underpin cutting-edge research

Требования

Undergraduate degree in STEM (engineering, mathematics, physics, environmental sciences or a related field) or equivalent practical experience
Strong software skills, preferably in Python
Proficiency in modelling and data analysis
Experience with modern typed Python toolboxes
Exposure to functional programming, computer algebra and immutability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Previous experience in techno-economic analysis or lifecycle modelling is advantageous

Fixed-term post with funding available for 12 months in the first instance
Based at the Whittle Laboratory in West Cambridge
