Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a Head of AI & Program Technology Engineering to lead the technical team building AI systems for humanitarian aid. This senior leadership role focuses on developing AI-powered solutions like agentic systems and diagnostics in challenging environments. It involves technical strategy, team management, and collaboration with program leaders and AI partners.

Responsibilities

Lead technical strategy and direction for IRC's AI portfolio, translating AI ambitions into a technical roadmap
Manage and grow a team of engineers, applied AI engineers, and QA specialists, raising engineering quality
Partner with program leaders to co-design solutions that work in low-resource and high-stakes settings
Serve as technical lead on strategic AI partnerships with organizations like Anthropic and OpenAI
Design and oversee high-availability AI architectures in Azure with redundancy and security for sensitive data

Requirements

Hands-on experience building production AI systems such as agentic frameworks, LLM applications, RAG systems, or computer vision
Solid full-stack foundation with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frameworks
Experience with cloud architecture, preferably Azure, including AI services and DevOps pipelines
7–10+ years in software engineering or technical product development, with 3+ years leading engineers
Ability to engage non-technical leaders and operate across global teams and time zones
