Description
Pearson seeks a Lead UX Designer to head the global UX organisation for English Language Learning products. The role sets design direction, owns the design system and drives research across a portfolio of learner and teacher experiences. It involves leading a team of 15‑20 designers, managers and contributors in a hybrid work model based in Madrid. The position reports to the Product Officer and is part of the ELL Product Leadership Team.
Responsibilities
Set UX direction for English Language Learning, translating product strategy into design strategy and execution priorities
Drive customer experience outcomes across multiple squads, ensuring consistent and cohesive learner and teacher experiences
Own and scale the ELL design system and UX operations, delivering interaction, usability and accessibility patterns
Lead user research and discovery practices to generate deep insights that inform product decisions
Partner with regional leaders to localise experiences while maintaining global coherence
Coach and develop a high‑performing global team of design managers and senior individual contributors
Oversee hiring, calibration, learning, development and succession planning for the UX organisation
Requirements
Twelve or more years of experience in UX, product design or design leadership
At least five years leading multi‑team design organisations or managing design managers
Proven success setting design direction across complex multi‑product portfolios at scale
Experience building and operating mature design systems and research practices
Strong collaboration with senior product and engineering leaders in matrixed global organisations
Familiarity with English language learning, EdTech or related education markets preferred
Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, Cognitive Science or equivalent professional experience
