Description

An AI-native engineering company in Barcelona is hiring its first DevOps engineer to build the entire delivery platform from the first commit and own it outright. The role is senior and on-site, and covers infrastructure-as-code from zero, CI/CD, secrets management, observability and tested backups. Nobody is on call, ever, and the platform must stay genuinely recoverable through engineering rather than human availability. The company builds and runs software that automates professional-services work across roughly fifteen countries.

Responsibilities

Build the platform from code with hosts, networking, ingress, access and environments committed and reviewable
Make deployment self-serve down to one command so a developer never holds a platform credential
Own secrets with a real machine secrets manager and brokered credentials so agents only ever hold placeholders
Prove the restore by running the drill and writing the report
Build the release path with an automated test gate, per-branch preview URLs and a rehearsed rollback
Keep everything running: observability, cost caps and dependency hygiene
Write infrastructure-as-code so every environment is reproducible from a committed repo
Document and make reproducible everything you build as you go, not afterwards

Requirements

Proven experience building infrastructure from nothing that then survived other people using it
Infrastructure-as-code as the daily way of working, not a tool merely used once
Ownership of backups plus a real, tested restore under time pressure
Comfortable running services on your own servers, not only managed cloud consoles
Production Kubernetes experience and the judgement to say when it is not the answer
Automating yourself out of the loop and writing things down as you go
Ability to reject complexity and build the boring thing that works
Security as an instinct: secrets, access, least privilege and patching
Fluent English as the working language across roughly fifteen countries
Spanish is genuinely useful day to day, Catalan is not required

Conditions

On-site role in Barcelona, especially during the first year
No on-call ever: no rota, no pager and no phone number
Alerts post to a team channel and wait there instead of paging anyone

Relocation support: flights, first month's accommodation, visa and paperwork costs and Spanish lessons
Relocation bonus paid on arrival, repayable only if you leave within the first eighteen months
