Description

The company is building the energy system of the future with its Heartbeat AI virtual power plant, connecting solar, batteries, heat pumps and e-mobility. It is looking for a Working Student Designer to join the Heartbeat AI product design team, focused on the design system. The role involves contributing to a scalable, code-aligned design system, auditing and documenting components, tokens and UI patterns, and using AI tools such as Figma, Claude and Cursor. Work is remote across Germany, with offices in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the scalable, code-aligned design system and keep it consistent across Heartbeat
Audit, structure and document components, tokens and UI patterns
Support designers and engineers with reusable building blocks that speed up handoff
Use AI and modern tools (Figma, Claude, Cursor) to explore, document and iterate faster without skipping the thinking
Partner with designers and engineers, ask good questions and make decisions easy to follow

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in UX, Interaction Design, HCI, Visual Communication or a related field
Skills in design systems, UI craft, documentation, AI-assisted workflows and collaboration
Systems thinking: care for how one component, token or naming decision scales
Autonomy to spot gaps, propose a next step and follow through
Deliberate approach: move with pace without rushing design system architecture
Eagerness to learn and find smart ways to get unstuck
AI-curious: already using AI as a real part of the workflow and able to show how
Craft-mindedness: sense of quality for visual design, interaction and consistency; academic projects are welcome
Clear communication with English as the working language; German is a plus
Tools: Figma and Claude or Cursor
