Description
New Relic is a global observability platform company building an intelligent platform for monitoring complex systems. The Principal Product Designer on the UX Platform team is the most senior individual design voice, responsible for the hardest and most ambiguous design problems across the platform and the Design System. The role focuses on AI-native experience design and evolving design processes for AI-first workflows, working as a trusted deputy to the Design Director.
Responsibilities
Own the most complex and ambiguous design problems across platform scope from framing through detailed craft end to end
Design for AI-native experiences: shape non-deterministic interfaces that adapt to each use and set design principles for coherence
Evolve how design is done in AI-first spec-driven workflows and build ways to evaluate shipping higher quality software
Set the bar for documentation and traceability with clear specs, references, and rationale for team and AI tools
Act as second senior point of design judgment and subject matter expert, deputizing for Design Director in reviews
Strengthen connection between product design and Design System, defining systems and processes others can benefit from
Partner with Product and Engineering to align on direction and maintain healthy work cadence
Mentor designers, lead by example, and raise the overall level of craft across the team
Requirements
Extensive product design experience including senior or lead work on complex software products
Portfolio demonstrating depth of craft and systems thinking across product design and design systems with recognized mastery
Track record of owning ambiguous problems independently and driving them to real outcomes end to end without oversight
Experience designing for AI-native, non-deterministic experiences with enthusiasm for AI-first workflows
Discerning approach to AI with judgment to distinguish where it adds real value versus noise
Ability to act as subject matter expert who shapes priorities, leads research, and interprets analysis into design decisions
Proven ability to influence Product and Engineering partners without formal authority
Excellent written and verbal communication in English with habit of documenting decisions and rationale clearly
