Description

AI startup building autonomous agents that manage cloud infrastructure and eliminate cloud waste, described as a €512B problem amplified by GenAI adoption. The founding team includes an ex-AWS sales leader and an expert AI architect, backed by leading VCs. The company is hiring a founding engineer to encode FinOps logic into agents, own customer savings outcomes and design guardrails for autonomous action in production. The role is based in Utrecht on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities

Be the FinOps brain inside the agentic system with your patterns and rules
Own the customer outcome with Platform and Cloud teams and prove savings in production
Decide what is safe for agents to fix on their own with guardrails
Shift cost left by catching expensive infrastructure decisions in the PR, not the invoice
Encode every customer engagement as a new optimization pattern for the multi-agent system

Requirements

4+ years hands-on experience in cloud cost optimization
Personally cut six or seven figures of cloud spend
Live in the console and IaC repo, not in slides
Know which workloads should never run on-demand
Write code to automate your work with Python or Bash
Know IaC properly: Terraform at minimum, ideally Bicep too
Communicate like an engineer to engineers and run working sessions
Find savings live in customer consoles and write runbooks by EOD
Move fast and ship with bias for action, fix what you find
Use AI tools daily: Claude, Cursor, agents
Bonus: background at AWS, GCP, Azure or DevOps tooling company
Bonus: owned real FinOps numbers inside a mid-market or enterprise
Bonus: open source contributions in cloud, IaC, or FinOps
Bonus: FinOps certification, though savings portfolio matters more
Bonus: experience as an early engineer at a startup before

Conditions

Competitive Dutch market salary
Meaningful founding-engineer equity (ESOP)
Hybrid and flexible work, output over hours logged
Paid time off and company holidays
Direct line to the founders shaping product and roadmap
Laptop, headphones, merch and company BBQs
