Description

The Engineering Platform is being transformed into a state-of-the-art Internal Developer Platform built on modern principles and AI-augmented workflows, with a North Star of evolving into an Agentic Development Platform where human engineers and AI agents build software side by side. This is the modern evolution of the DevOps Engineer role: the platform is treated as a product, and the engineer owns a capability area end to end. The role covers golden paths and self-service templates, CI/CD and GitOps migration, cloud infrastructure as code, observability, and agent governance on top of the IDP.

Responsibilities

Build and operate the IDP: golden paths, self-service templates, the developer portal (Backstage) and IDP catalog with default-compliant guardrails
Own CI/CD and GitOps: GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions, drive migration off Azure DevOps, implement GitOps with ArgoCD for AKS
Provision cloud infrastructure as code: evolve Azure with Terraform and Helm, manage reliability and cost (FinOps)
Improve observability and reliability: instrument systems with NewRelic and Grafana, define SLOs, reduce operational toil, drive monitoring-cost accountability
Advance AI-First Delivery and the ADP: build agent-ready context (MCP, Technology Framework), path definitions and agent governance
Own a capability area end to end, define reference patterns and ADRs, raise the bar through code review, mentoring and pairing
Build for adoption like a product: design around internal customers, write docs, gather feedback, partner with the Platform Product Manager on priorities

Requirements

Full-stack software engineering background with shipped production software (C#/.NET, Node.js, Python, Go or similar)
Typically 5+ years building and operating cloud platforms or infrastructure, including owning a capability area end to end
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes (AKS): networking, storage, managed databases
Infrastructure as Code and GitOps: Terraform and Helm, GitOps with ArgoCD or similar
CI/CD: modern pipelines, GitHub Actions ideal; experience migrating from other CI systems a plus
Observability and reliability: metrics, logs, traces, SLOs and error budgets; policy-as-code, secrets management, identity basics
Product mindset for internal tooling: developer empathy, self-service design, guardrails not gates
AI-First: already works with AI coding assistants such as Cursor and wants to build golden paths and agent workflows
Language: professional-level English spoken and written
API platform experience (Azure APIM, Apollo Federation/GraphOS) and developer-portal experience (Backstage)
Familiarity with Team Topologies, DORA, SPACE / DX Core 4, CNCF platform maturity, n8n and FinOps

Conditions

Office presence is prioritised with in-person collaboration, adjustments offered where needed per company policy
Extra wellbeing days on top of the annual leave allowance
Up to 3 paid volunteering days each year
24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme covering wellbeing, mental health, legal and financial support
Learning and development support via the Learning Hub
