Description

Art Director role in a defence-technology company that builds uncrewed vessels, ground robotics, aircraft, autonomy software and the command-and-control layer operating them, with operations across Europe, the US and Asia. The position combines direction with hands-on production: capability collateral, specification sheets, presentations, exhibition graphics, digital and social assets, plus art direction of external photography, film and 3D vendors. The role spans print, digital, environmental and presentation design and owns the visual consistency that external agencies deliver into. Work is hybrid and full-time, based in London.

Responsibilities

Design capability collateral, specification sheets, presentations, launch assets, digital and social graphics
Evolve the visual system — typography, colour, layout, iconography and treatment of platform imagery — and document it for others
Turn technical material such as system architectures, concepts of operation and platform diagrams into images a non-specialist can understand
Design exhibition and event graphics, from stand panels to printed handouts
Art-direct photography, film and 3D work, on location and in review, so commissioned material comes back usable and on-brand
Actively use AI tools in how work is run and delivered, and commission or build workflows that do not yet exist
Direct localisation of visual work across the company's markets
Apply security and export-control requirements to visual material and route platform, facility and personnel imagery for clearance before release
Set the standard for external agencies, photographers, 3D artists and film-makers and judge what they deliver
Produce materials for sales, government relations, recruitment and the executive team rather than marketing alone

Requirements

Substantial experience as a Graphic designer or art director, in-house or in an agency
Portfolio showing both range and finished craft across print, digital and environmental work
Command of typography, hierarchy and composition with a body of work held to a consistent system
Ability to art-direct photographers, film-makers, illustrators and 3D artists from written brief through review to delivery
Deep fluency in Figma: components, variants and shared libraries, not frames alone
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator for print and large-format work
Willingness to master Google Slides as a primary sales instrument
Experience making complex or technical subject matter legible in engineering, science, medicine, infrastructure or defence
Eligibility to gain UK security clearance
Experience designing for defence, dual-use or engineering-led products (nice to have)
Technical illustration, diagramming or 3D skills (nice to have)
Motion design or video editing (nice to have)
Branding consistency and design documentation across all produced materials
