Description

An AI learning and teaching platform for higher and further education institutions, with strong traction and pre-seed funding, is entering a growth phase. The company is hiring a founding mobile engineer to drive the React Native app forward. The role owns app architecture, state management, API integration and performance monitoring, building the mobile layer on top of a stable API and mature backend. Since the app is not a 1:1 copy of the web product, defining what mobile should be is a large part of the job.

Building smooth user journeys and ensuring native-level performance
Write, ship and iterate on your own code in production
Make key calls on architecture, state management, API integration and performance monitoring
Build a robust mobile foundation using patterns like MVVM or TCA
Connect the mobile layer with Effect-based backend and AI systems
Solve engineering challenges around real-time synchronization, offline-first capabilities and streaming AI responses
Track down and fix performance issues like sluggish render cycles or slow startup times
Push for better maintainability, strict type safety and consistent UX across the codebase
Figure out what mobile should actually be rather than copying the web product

Requirements

Solid experience with TypeScript and React Native including apps shipped to stores
Practical understanding of OTA updates and native module issues in production
Experience maintaining released apps and handling rejected store reviews
End-to-end ownership of features until they run successfully in production
Working closely with backend and product engineers and defending technical decisions
Startup experience in fast-paced, evolving environments
Balanced AI approach using tools like Cursor and Claude Code effectively
Strong identification with the mission to transform education

Competitive salary package including an equity component
Fully covered Deutschlandticket
BusinessBike leasing including private use

Working in a small driven team built around performance and learning
Flexible environment with a high degree of autonomy
