Description

Graphcore is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its ML QA team to build the software that validates its machine learning stack, from frameworks down to AI accelerator hardware. The role centres on production-quality test infrastructure, scalable test frameworks and CI/CD pipelines running across simulators, emulators and physical hardware, plus representative ML workloads and analysis of their numerical accuracy and performance. It offers scope to shape software architecture and developer experience rather than only adding tests to existing systems, and to mentor junior engineers. The position is based in London and requires the legal right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Design production-quality test infrastructure that engineers can extend, maintain and rely on as the ML software grows
Architect scalable test frameworks and build CI/CD pipelines running across simulators, emulators and physical hardware
Create representative ML workloads, analyse their execution and turn the results into practical improvements to testing and tooling
Shape software architecture and developer experience instead of only adding tests to existing systems
Work across software teams using code and design reviews to strengthen quality, security and maintainability
Use workload results to challenge assumptions and guide technical decisions about how the ML stack is tested
Own improvements, act quickly on testing gaps and mentor junior engineers to raise the team's technical standards

Requirements

Strong Python skills demonstrated through designing, developing and maintaining production-quality software
Software design and architecture skills for large, complex codebases with a focus on testability and long-term maintainability
Experience building CI/CD pipelines and automated testing systems in Linux environments
Familiarity with C or C++, including the ability to read, debug and reason about low-level code
The ability to mentor junior engineers and influence engineering practices through constructive feedback
A self-directed approach to solving complex problems, identifying gaps and driving improvements

Conditions

Flexible working to balance work and personal life with greater flexibility
Generous leave to rest, recharge and spend time outside work
Retirement planning support with up to 5% matched pension
Phantom equity sharing in Graphcore's success
Thoughtfully designed office spaces with free food and an on-site barista
Income protection and life assurance for financial security
Electric vehicle leasing through salary sacrifice
Flexible benefits including private medical insurance and dental cover
Optional benefits such as cycle to work scheme, health cash plan and give as you earn
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK
